Portfolio Development for Prior Learning

The Portfolio Development for Prior Learning course is designed for individuals with significant learning from work and life experiences. The objective of the course is to assist students in the assembly of a portfolio that provides a description of work and life experiences and the skills and knowledge acquired as they relate to the objectives of a college credit course.

Program Requirements and Process

• Call the Accelerated College Office at 904.632.5095 or e-mail to request program information.
• Complete a Florida Community College Student Membership application. If you are a current or former Florida Community College student, you do not need to complete this process.
• Students who have not attended Florida Community College for one calendar year or more will need to update their information using the Florida Community College Student Membership application. The membership fee will not need to be paid again.
• Complete the portfolio advising form if you are interested in enrolling in the Portfolio Development for Prior Learning course. You may fax the form to: 904.632.5092 or mail it to Florida Community College, Accelerated College Office, 601 W. State Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202. If you receive this form by e-mail or download it from this site, you may return it to Sheilah Lynn.
• An advisor from the Accelerated College office will contact you regarding entry into the Portfolio Development for Prior Learning course.
• Enroll in SLS 1371 Portfolio Development for Prior Learning, a one credit-hour course . You will learn how to develop a portfolio and begin to work on your first one.
• Continue to develop your individual portfolio, a detailed summary of your experiences.
• Have your portfolio evaluated by our faculty members for college equivalent learning.* Get the college credit you have earned!

Things to Remember as You Get Started

• Decide on a Program of Study.
• If you need assistance with your degree or certificate choice, contact an advisor at the campus most convenient to you.
• Take a look at the courses required for your Program of Study and choose the ones in which you have the most experience. An advisor may help you with this also.
• Contact the Portfolio Development Advisor about enrollment into the Portfolio Development class. Remember to send in your portfolio advising form!
