MEI and US Army Mobile Learning Technologies
MEI and the US Army are developing robust and highly interactive college courses to be delivered via mobile devices – providing educational training opportunities “anywhere at any time” a soldier’s schedule permits.
The Military Education Institute was awarded a contract by the United States Army as a result of a congressional earmark, providing Operation and Maintenance Army appropriated funds to be used for “Mobilizing Educational Technology to Support Combat Deployment.”
Using existing curriculum, the college was tasked with the development of college courseware with supporting assessments of learning outcomes to be delivered using untethered mobile learning technologies or secure mobile computing devices to support the continuing education needs of deployed soldiers who often experience limited internet connectivity/access and do not always – or do not ever – have access to instructor-based college courses.
Additionally, the contract required the college to select, train and certify faculty members to adapt existing curricula for mobile delivery that include flexible, self-contained testing solutions and provide access to instruction at the soldiers' convenience.
